How Akudesign Grew 300% in Revenue by Centralizing Operations with EasyStore
Starting his clothing business during the Myspace era, Amirel never imagined that Akudesign would grow into what it is today—more than a decade later.
Inspired by his love for streetwear brands like Quiksilver and Wild Channel, he and his brother decided to turn their passion into a business.
Today, Akudesign is a successful Malaysian streetwear brand generating six-figure revenue annually, with a concept store in Melaka and a loyal customer base.
Overcoming Challenges Through Growth
Although Amirel is a veteran in the streetwear scene, his journey hasn’t been without its challenges.
Like many business owners, he had to learn through trial and error.
With the help of EasyStore, however, Akudesign has achieved several key milestones:
Increased revenue by 300%
Saved up to 80% of time spent on inventory management
Reduced website maintenance costs significantly
From WhatsApp Orders to a Concept Store
Amirel’s journey began online, where he managed orders manually via WhatsApp. For six years, this system worked, but he eventually realized it was time to scale.
After testing the waters through pop-up events, Amirel discovered a strong demand for his products and noticed a gap in Melaka’s streetwear scene—there were no physical stores for local streetwear brands. This sparked the idea of opening a concept store.
Beyond business growth, his goal was also to change public perception about local fashion brands. Many Malaysians associate local products with low quality and cheap pricing.
Amirel wanted Akudesign to challenge that stereotype by prioritizing high-quality materials, thoughtful detailing, and storytelling in every design.
Early Struggles in Physical Retail
Transitioning to a brick-and-mortar store wasn’t easy. Although he drew inspiration from stores he visited in Indonesia and the U.S., Amirel soon realized he had overlooked operational details—like not having hangers ready on opening day.
One of the biggest hurdles was managing inventory across both online and offline channels. While using StoreHub, and later WordPress, Amirel faced issues with syncing inventory in real time.
Solving Inventory Woes with EasyStore
After trying multiple platforms, Amirel switched to EasyStore. The platform allowed him to easily sync inventory across his online store, offline store, and Shopee—all updated in real time. He no longer had to manually check each platform to avoid overselling.
EasyStore’s POS system was a game-changer. It unified sales, marketing, and inventory across his sales channels. In one instance, the POS system helped him avoid overselling when two different customers tried to purchase the same item on different platforms.
“POS also helps me to connect to my customer database seamlessly so I can easily follow up with customers and send them marketing material.”— Amirel Anuar, Founder of Akudesign
By simplifying daily operations, EasyStore allowed Amirel to focus more on marketing and customer engagement, contributing directly to the 300% increase in revenue.
Cutting Website Maintenance Costs
One of Amirel’s biggest regrets was adopting WordPress based on recommendations. Neither he nor his team had the technical know-how to manage it. Building and maintaining the site required hiring a developer—an added cost that didn’t align with his business needs.
Switching to EasyStore’s drag-and-drop website builder eliminated this problem. He and his team could now design and update their site without relying on external help. With access to customizable templates, building an online store became quick and hassle-free.
Looking Ahead: Expansion and Innovation
For now, Amirel is focusing on growing Akudesign through its website, Shopee store, and physical concept store. But with EasyStore streamlining backend operations, he’s planning to expand into other platforms like Lazada and Instagram Live.
“Because I have more time to focus on sales and marketing instead of spending all that time doing repetitive tasks like managing inventory and uploading products, I managed to see a 300% increase in revenue.”— Amirel Anuar, Founder of Akudesign
With EasyStore, Amirel can continue educating customers about streetwear culture, grow his brand, and run his business more efficiently.
