Gift Delivery Etiquette: The Do’s and Don’ts You Should Know

Everyone loves receiving gifts — not just for the mystery inside, but also for the thoughtfulness behind them and the care put into the wrapping.

Many of us send gifts throughout the year to strengthen bonds and express gratitude to our loved ones.

But before you hit “send,” here are a few helpful tips to ensure your parcel arrives safely and makes the perfect impression — because no one wants their gift delivery to go wrong!

DO

Pack Your Gift Securely — Don’t Let It Get Pancaked

To avoid your parcel getting crushed or damaged, use bubble wrap for extra protection.

Ensure there’s no movement inside the box during transit by filling empty spaces with old newspaper, foam, or padding.

While our courier partners always aim to handle parcels with care, accidents can happen — so it’s better to play it safe.

Double-Check the Air Waybill (AWB) Details

After all the effort you’ve put into selecting the perfect gift, the last thing you want is for it to get sent to the wrong person.

Make sure the shipper’s address, recipient’s address, parcel weight, and contact numbers are filled in correctly on the AWB.

Always double-check these details before handing the gift to your friendly courier rider.

Check if Your Item is Allowed for Delivery

Not every item can be shipped.

While gifts like perfumes, chocolates, power banks, home-baked cookies, or potted plants might seem thoughtful, they’re often on the prohibited list with our courier partners.

Items like liquids, food, plants, and jewelry typically can’t be sent.

Always check the courier’s prohibited items list before booking a delivery.

DON’T

Send a Parcel Without Any Protection

While it’s tempting to preserve the beautiful wrapping for your recipient’s surprise, skipping protective packaging like bubble wrap can lead to damage.

Parcels will go through multiple hands during delivery.

You can still wrap your gift nicely — just do it inside the box, not as the outer layer.

Wait Until the Last Minute

We all want our gifts to arrive right on time, but last-minute bookings, especially during peak seasons like Chinese New Year or Valentine’s Day, can risk delays.

Though local deliveries typically take 1–4 working days, it’s safer to book early to avoid disappointment.

Leave the House Empty During Pickup or Delivery

Who doesn’t love having a surprise gift delivered to their door?

If you’re using door-to-door pickup, make sure someone’s home between 1 pm and 6 pm for the courier to collect the parcel.

Likewise, let your recipient know to expect a delivery — couriers are responsible for personally handing over parcels, not leaving them unattended at the doorstep.
