From Chemical Engineer to Skincare Entrepreneur: Sarini’s Journey of Purpose and Passion
In 2011, Sarini graduated with a degree in Chemical Engineering from Korea University, South Korea. But instead of stepping into a conventional engineering career, she took a bold leap to pursue her passion—building a business rooted in skincare.
A Calling She Didn’t Find in Her ‘Ex-Career’
Moving to South Korea for better education sparked more than academic growth—it ignited her passion for skincare and formulation. “My interest in skincare and chemical formulations has brought me this far,” Sarini reflects.
Living in South Korea, where skincare is taken seriously by people of all genders, it was impossible not to be inspired. The culture’s rapid innovation mirrored the fast pace of daily life, influencing Sarini to explore the world of skincare more deeply.
Eventually, she launched an online store featuring curated skincare products from South Korea, Japan, the U.S., and Malaysia.
Turning Support into Strength
Entrepreneurship is never a solo journey. Support from friends and acquaintances in Korea helped her take her first steps. With their help, Sarini managed to import Korean skincare products to Malaysia safely—laying the groundwork for her future brand.
Though she returned to Malaysia with a degree in Chemical Engineering, her ambitions had shifted entirely.
Tried. Failed. Tried Again. And Grew Stronger.
One of her earliest challenges was earning customer trust. As a newcomer in skincare e-commerce, her brand initially struggled to gain credibility. Even her skincare knowledge was questioned.
“I didn’t realize how tough it would be until I lived it,” she admits.
But her persistence paid off. Burnout gave way to breakthroughs when repeat customers began leaving genuine reviews. Without her even noticing, her brand started gaining public attention—thanks to word-of-mouth.
Funding the business proved to be another hurdle. Like many women-led startups, she had to rely on self-funding. With no bank loans, she worked side jobs to keep her business afloat—until EasyStore entered the picture.
More Than Skincare: The Brand That Grows With Her
“I chose EasyStore around 2015 because my business needed a more organized system as it continued to grow.” After reviewing her challenges, setting up a website became the obvious next step.
EasyStore helped her streamline operations—automating order tracking, inventory management, and online transactions. Having the right inventory available consistently helped her build a loyal customer base.
Plus, the clean and minimalist website design gave her brand a professional, trustworthy appearance—letting her products speak for themselves.
EasyStore Tools That Helped Her Scale
1. EasyParcel Integration
The built-in EasyParcel tool allows her to compare delivery rates from various couriers—locally and internationally—and book deliveries with no added charges.
2. Bulk Product Editing
With an extensive product catalog, the bulk editing function became a time-saving game changer. She could update product details in batches rather than one by one.
Solving Pain Points with Multi-Channel Integration
As she expanded to Shopee and Lazada, EasyStore’s multi-channel integration helped her manage everything from one dashboard.
This seamless sync improved product visibility, increased sales, and drove more traffic to her website.
Being able to centralize inventory and orders across platforms helped Sarini work smarter, not harder.
Start Before You’re Ready
“If you have a dream, go for it!” Sarini says. The Pastel Shop began with humble roots, but through resilience and bold decisions, it has become a trusted brand.
If there’s one lesson to take away from Sarini’s story, it’s this: the secret to moving forward is to begin.
