A Beginner’s Guide to Facebook Advertising (Part 2)
In Part 1, you learned the basics of Facebook Ads and how they fit into your marketing strategy. (If you haven’t read it yet, click here to check out Part 1.)
Now, in Part 2, we’ll walk you through getting started with Facebook Ads, including setting up your business Page, managing ad account permissions, setting spending limits, and other key details to help you run smarter ad campaigns.
Creating Your Business Page
Before launching ads, you need a Facebook Page for your business. Pages allow you to share updates, engage with followers, and create a professional online presence.
To create a Page:
Log in to your Facebook account.
Go to facebook.com/pages/create.
Select a Page category and a more specific subcategory.
Fill in the required details and click Get Started.
Follow the on-screen instructions to complete your setup.
Creating Your First Ad
Click the downward arrow at the top of Facebook and select “Create Ads” from the dropdown menu. You’ll be taken to the Ad Manager setup wizard.
The first step is choosing your marketing objective. Options include website traffic, engagement, lead generation, and more.
If you’re new to Facebook Ads, Boost Post is a simple and effective starting point. Then, click Create Ad Account.
Next, set up:
Target Audience: Choose location, age, gender, and language (we’ll cover advanced targeting in Part 3).
Budget & Schedule: Set a daily or lifetime budget and choose when your ads will run.
Once configured, click Continue.
Adding Media & Text
Ads need compelling visuals and text to capture attention. You can:
Select "Create New Ad" if you don’t have an existing post.
Upload an image (recommended size: 1200 x 628 px).
Add engaging ad copy—whether it’s a promotion, an informative post, or a story.
Preview how your ad will look on different placements.
Setting Up Billing & Payment
Once you place your ad order, you must add a payment method. Facebook accepts:
Credit/debit cards.
Online banking (available in select countries, including Malaysia).
Facebook bills you in two ways:
At the end of each month.
When you reach your billing threshold (you can set this under Settings > Billing & Payment Method > Manage Preferences).
Tip: To control your spending, set a campaign spending limit or monitor your budget closely.
Managing Ads in Ads Manager
Once your ad is live, you can track its performance in Facebook Ads Manager.
You can edit your ad anytime by clicking the pencil icon, but note that if you change the image or text, all previous likes, comments, and shares will be removed.
However, editing targeting settings won’t reset engagement.
